Asbestos Air Testing

During an asbestos air test, a specific volume of air is drawn through a filter over a measured time period. Any airborne particles are collected in the filter – this filter is then examined in a laboratory to establish the presence and levels of asbestos within the environment. Our approved suppliers work in full accordance with UKAS to ensure that you receive a service that is completely reliable and accurate.

There are a number of reasons you might need asbestos testing. If asbestos has been disturbed during building or renovation works, it is important to ensure that fibres are not present in the atmosphere before work can resume, as asbestos can be extremely hazardous if breathed into the lungs.

Any time that asbestos has potentially been disturbed, fibres may have been released into the atmosphere. It is up to the owner of a building or the supervisor of works to ensure that the risk of asbestos exposure is kept to a minimum – our asbestos testing can confirm the presence of asbestos or be used as a part of an overall monitoring strategy to make sure workers and members of the public are not exposed to asbestos.

About Asbestos Air Testing with our FAQ’s and Articles

What is Asbestos Air Testing?
Asbestos air testing is the process of measuring the concentration of airborne asbestos fibres in a specific area. This testing helps determine if the air quality is safe, particularly after asbestos removal work or in environments where asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are present.
Why is Asbestos Air Testing Important?
Airborne asbestos fibres pose serious health risks when inhaled, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis. Asbestos air testing ensures that these fibres are not present at dangerous levels, providing peace of mind that the environment is safe for occupants.
When Should Asbestos Air Testing Be Conducted?
Asbestos air testing is typically conducted before, during, and after asbestos removal projects to ensure that fibres are not released into the air. It is also recommended in buildings where ACMs are in poor condition or have been disturbed during renovations or maintenance.
What Does the Asbestos Air Testing Process Involve?
The process involves using specialised equipment, such as air pumps, to collect air samples over a set period. These samples are then analysed in a UKAS-accredited laboratory using microscopy techniques to count and identify asbestos fibres.
Can Crucial Environmental Help with Asbestos Air Testing?
Yes, Crucial Environmental offers comprehensive asbestos air testing services. Our qualified surveyors conduct thorough testing, provide clear and accurate results, and advise on any necessary actions if asbestos fibres are detected.
How Accurate is Asbestos Air Testing?
Asbestos air testing is highly accurate when performed by professionals using UKAS-accredited laboratories. The testing methods follow strict guidelines, ensuring that results reliably reflect the levels of asbestos fibres in the air.
What Happens if Asbestos Fibres are Detected in the Air?
If asbestos fibres are detected above safe levels, Crucial Environmental will provide detailed recommendations to address the issue. This may include additional cleaning, further containment, or other remedial actions to reduce airborne fibres and ensure the environment is safe.
How Long Does Asbestos Air Testing Take?
The testing process, including sample collection, can typically be completed within a few hours. The samples are then sent to a lab for analysis, with results usually available within a few days, depending on the urgency and scope of testing required.
Is Asbestos Air Testing Legally Required?
Asbestos air testing is not always legally required, but it is strongly recommended in situations involving asbestos removal or disturbance. Compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 often necessitates air testing to verify that asbestos levels are safe after work has been completed.
How Can I Book Asbestos Air Testing with Crucial Environmental?
You can schedule asbestos air testing by contacting Crucial Environmental directly through our website or by calling our office. Our team will assist you in arranging the testing at a convenient time and provide guidance throughout the process.
